Vertigo
Vertigo is a type of dizziness where you feel like you or the room is spinning. It can make it hard to do normal daily activities.
Common symptoms include:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Trouble with balance
- Feeling worse with movement
What Is BPPV?
The most common cause of vertigo is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo).
- Benign: not dangerous
- Paroxysmal: starts suddenly
- Positional: triggered by movement
- Vertigo: spinning feeling
Common Triggers
People with BPPV often feel spinning when they:
- Roll over in bed
- Get in or out of bed
- Tilt their head (like in the shower)
- Bend over or look up
Why It Happens
Bppv is caused by tiny crystals in the inner ear moving to the wrong place. This affects your balance and causes spinning.
It can happen:
- Without a clear reason
- After a head injury
- After an inner ear infection
The spinning usually lasts a few seconds to a few minutes
How We Treat BPPV
Testing for BPPV is quick and simple. A therapist will guide your head and body through certain positions to check for symptoms.
Treatment includes special movements called repositioning maneuvers. These help move the crystals back where they belong.
- Most people feel better in 1–3 visits
- Some may need extra exercises for balance or vision
We do not recommend trying treatments you find online. The correct treatment depends on the exact type of BPPV.
